One in every 200 cats and one in every 500 dogs suffer from either Type I diabetes, the inability to produce insulin, or Type II diabetes, an insensitivity to insulin. Pets with these diseases typically require daily injections of insulin to metabolise dietary glucose, along with careful monitoring.

Symptoms of diabetes in pets:

  • Drinks more water than usual
  • Urinates more frequently, produces more urine per day or has "accidents" outside the litter box
  • Always acts hungry, but maintains or loses weight
  • Is less active or sleeps more
  • Has thinning, dry and dull hair
  • Has cloudy eyes (dogs)

The management of this disease has never been easier, thanks to our AlphaTRAK Blood Glucose Monitoring System, which is a system validated for cats and dogs.
